This year, we proudly celebrate 40 years of opening doors of opportunity to youth in need. For four decades, YWS has been a place of safety, support, and opportunity for young people in our community. Our work has always been guided by the voices of the youth we serve, and we are proud to walk alongside them every step of the way, celebrating their resilience and supporting them as they navigate life’s challenges. We are more than just a building – we are a centre of service for youth to heal and grow.
What has set YWS apart over the years is not only our Stay In School program – a one-of-its-kind initiative providing 20-bed, long-term transitional accommodation for youth dedicated to completing their education – but also our after-care support. We ensure that youth maintain stable housing even after reaching their initial goals, recognizing that stability is essential to breaking the cycle of chronic homelessness. By supporting youth every step of the way, from education to housing, we help them build the foundation for a safe, independent, and thriving future.
In addition to our foundational programs, we’ve continued to expand and innovate to meet the evolving needs of youth. Recent additions include on-site mental health care, with one-to-one case management, counselling, and access to a full-time Psychological Associate, as well as an on-site primary health care clinic staffed by a General Practitioner, offering low-barrier medical care, ongoing treatment, and outside referrals. Combined with our employment support, education guidance, and comprehensive case management, these services ensure that every young person who comes through our doors has the tools and support to thrive.
