How to Help

Other Ways to Give

YOUR GIFT MAKES FUTURES HAPPEN

Youth need many supports to overcome homelessness: safe shelter, food and clothing, health cards and identification, emotional support, counselling and referral services, life skills training, educational opportunities, housing options, job search skills, social skills and recreational options. Through our programming, Youth Without Shelter offers all of these supports to over 1,000 youth who seek safe shelter and support each year. We depend upon our supporters within our community as we work to secure the futures of the youth who call YWS home.

We provide giving opportunities that can be tailored to meet your specific needs. Whether you would like to make your gift online, by cheque or credit card, in memory of a loved one, or by participating in one of our giving programs (Roommates and Adopt-A-Bed Monthly Giving), your support will reach the youth who need your help the most to break the cycle of homelessness.

To personally discuss your options, please call the Development and Engagement office at 416.748.0110 ext. 26 or via communications@yws.on.ca.

DONATE THROUGH THE UNITED WAY

Phone the United Way Greater Toronto Donor Line and ask to allocate your gift to YWS: 416.777.2001. When completing payroll deduction forms, you can also designate YWS as the beneficiary of your donation. Note: an administration fee of $12 is applied to the designated donation by the United Way.

DONATE SECURITIES AND MUTUAL FUNDS

You can donate your securities directly through CanadaHelps. Those capital gains aren’t subject to tax. This means YWS receives a larger gift, and you’ll benefit from a tax receipt for the full value of your eligible securities or mutual funds.

The Canada Revenue Agency does not apply capital gains tax on donations of publicly traded securities. Capitals gains are the increase in the value of your securities over the price you paid at purchase.
When you sell your shares for cash, you’re responsible for the tax due on the gain, even if you plan to donate the proceeds from the sale. If you pay the tax out of those proceeds, there’s less money left to donate. Your charity receives a smaller donation and you have a smaller donation to claim for your charitable tax credit at the end of the year

I want you all to know you mean a lot to me and you were my real and true family. You never judged me, left me in my hard times. You guys make our days better and we need you.
