What a night!
We had so much fun during our 8th annual Cover Me Urban celebrations on June 15! Guests were able to explore the neighbourhoods of Toronto, sample foods from across the city, enjoy some incredible performances and spoken word – it was most certainly a night to remember.
Thanks to everyone who attended, donated, and bid on the silent auction. As a result, we were able to raise a total of $176,000 for the youth we support here at Youth Without Shelter!
Across Canada, up to 40,000 youth are homeless with 6,000 – 7,000 seeking a safe place to be sheltered tonight. Up to 2,000 of those youth are from Toronto. The funds raised from CMU will directly benefit our wrap-around supports and programs for youth ages 16-24 who need our help within our community.
This was our first major event since the pandemic began, and we are grateful to those who were able were able to join us and make this year’s CMU such a success.
We would like to express special thanks to our sponsors, who stood by us throughout the pandemic. It was a pleasure to finally be able to recognize them in-person again.
We would also like to send a big shout-out to our volunteers, youth, staff, and especially our Development and Engagement Committee who orchestrated a fabulous evening and ensured our guests had a wonderful experience.

CMU is back!
Live and in-person at The Rec Room in downtown Toronto, Youth Without Shelter is delighted to welcome you to our 8th annual “Cover Me Urban” celebration.
Join us on June 15th and enter the neighbourhoods of Toronto for an electric evening of urban sights and sounds. Sample street foods prepared by local Toronto Chefs, wine, beer, cocktails and sweets. Enjoy live music, visual arts, spoken word, street entertainment and a fantastic silent auction.
This is not your traditional gala evening! Guests mingle and play in this historic urban space with patrons of all ages, including YWS youth who volunteer with the Chefs.

WHO WE ARE
The City of Toronto is one of the wealthiest cities in the world. Nonetheless, we have the largest homeless population in Canada. Up to 40,000 youth face homelessness across Canada with 6,000 – 7,000 seeking a safe place to be sheltered tonight. Up to 2,000 of those youth are from Toronto.
Located in the community of North Etobicoke, YWS provides a safe refuge for youth who – often through circumstances beyond their control – have found themselves without a home to call their own. Demand for our services is increasing. Youth make up the fastest-growing population of homeless people in Canada, and their needs are changing, requiring longer stays and deeper support. The longer youth remain homeless, the greater the negative outcomes. Early intervention is key.
Our goal here at YWS is to empower youth facing homelessness to reach their individual potential. With the help of our community, we aim to end youth homelessness, one youth at a time, one step at a time.
UNDER OUR ROOF
With up to 2,000 youth experiencing homelessness each night within the city of Toronto, it can be extremely difficult for youth to find s safe place to sleep. Before the pandemic, youth shelters within Ontario were at 97% occupancy. Since March of last year, the challenges to find safe shelter have only increased, leaving many youth with nowhere to turn.
Here at Youth Without Shelter, we provide a safe refuge for youth ages 16 to 24. The absolute basic costs needed for a youth to stay with us for one night, in a safe, warm bed, is only $35. Whether a youth stays a few days, a few months or longer, YWS is committed to helping all of our residents transition from homelessness into independent, stable living
To support our youth during Cover Me Urban we are aiming to raise funds to cover the basic costs to house as many youth as possible for an entire year at YWS. For one youth that would be $12,775.
During Cover Me Urban you’ll be able to donate to “Under Our Roof”. For every $12,775 raised, YWS will be able to provide 1 youth with safe housing and wrap-around supports for one full year.
SILENT AUCTION
On June 1 at 9:00am EST our CMU auction will be open for bidding.
This year’s auction items include fabulous experiences such as 4 Gold Seats for Toronto Maple Leafs Game, a 3 Night Weekend stay in a beautiful newly built Muskoka Cottage, a voucher to travel to the North American destination of your choice (including Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean) with two Economy Class round-trip tickets (also includes a $500 Marriott Hotels voucher) donated by the Air Canada Foundation, and an incredible 5 Day African Safari for Two in Tanzania! All proceeds will directly benefit wrap-around programs and services at Youth Without Shelter.

Since our founding over 30 years ago, YWS has developed a model of care that identifies and builds on our clients’ strengths and resiliency. We do this by providing them with opportunities to develop their confidence and key skills they’ll need to navigate life and overcome challenges. We don’t just provide a warm bed for a night; we offer practical advice and guidance from trained staff, wrap-around support programs, and a safe, comfortable home. Our goal is to move young people out of homelessness, towards independent, stable living.
