Earlier this year, the difficult decision was made to postpone Cover Me Urban from our original April 15th date that was to be held at The Rec Room Toronto. Since that time, we have been overwhelmed by the support of our corporate sponsors and ticketholders and friends who have continued to pledge their support for both CMU and for YWS during this difficult time. Many have stepped up with help in our COVID-19 relief efforts and others with much needed words of support for our youth and our staff. Thank you to all.
Since that time, it has become clear that we will not be “going back to normal” any time soon. Nor do we know what normal will look like in the post lockdown state. The needs of YWS, as with many organizations, have been focused on our COVID-19 relief efforts, our youth, our staff and supporting our many volunteers. Our team is working hard to ensure that the development and engagement of all of our supporters, partners and friends is a key priority.
While a number of organizations have moved their fundraising events online, the CMU committee and staff team do not believe that this is the right move for CMU. Our event is based around community, friendship and gathering to celebrate all that represents the beautiful city in which we live. The colourful sights and sounds of Toronto, the art, the entertainment, and of course the delicious food. The spirit of an event such as CMU really blooms from the true “coming together” of our community to celebrate each other, our city, and the accomplishments of our youth. We don’t know what the future holds but we do know that it will be important to once again come together in 2021, in some way, to continue that celebration. We have thus made the difficult decision to cancel Cover Me Urban for this year.
We so appreciate the support you have shown us in the past and your efforts combined with those of all of our supporters have enabled us to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for YWS over the past few years. We are very proud of that. But we could not have done it alone. CMU’s success is based on the support of our corporate and hospitality partners some of whom are particularly feeling the effects of this lockdown. We’ve included a list below of our restaurant partners and encourage you, if you are thinking of ordering in or buying a gift card for future use, to patronize these establishments who have been loyal to YWS.
As well, we want to publicly thank our corporate partners listed below for their ongoing support. We look forward to welcoming them back next year.
This cancellation has been a difficult decision, not least because the needs of YWS have not diminished during this time. Many of you have come forward to help and we thank you immensely. In the coming months, we will continue to need your support, and know we can count on you to help us keep our youth safe and healthy as they continue to strive for greatness. We are stronger together, and together, we will get through this!
